Isola Bella is a small island just off the coast of Taormina, connected to the mainland by a narrow sandbar that becomes a footbridge at high tide. This protected nature reserve is a paradise for swimmers and sunbathers, with a pebble beach lapped by turquoise waters. The island is covered in Mediterranean scrub and has a small museum (the Casa del Museo) dedicated to marine life and local history. You can walk around the island on a short trail, exploring rocky coves and enjoying views back to Taormina perched on the cliff. The beach gets crowded in summer, but the water is clean and inviting. Snorkeling is popular, with fish visible just offshore. The setting is idyllic, with the dramatic coastline and Mount Etna in the background. Access is free, but the beach is pebbly – bring appropriate footwear. It's a perfect spot for a relaxing half-day escape from the hilltop town.
