Giardini Botanici Villa Taranto, located on the shores of Lake Maggiore in Verbania, is a masterpiece of landscape gardening. Created in the 1930s by Scottish captain Neil McEacharn, the garden spans 16 hectares and contains over 20,000 plant varieties from five continents. Visitors can stroll along winding paths that lead through themed areas: a Japanese garden, a water garden with lotus and water lilies, a collection of rare camellias, and a spectacular avenue of rhododendrons. The garden is designed to offer year-round interest, with spring bulbs, summer blooms, and autumn foliage. The villa itself is not open to the public, but the grounds are the main attraction. What makes this garden distinctive is its meticulous design that blends formal European style with exotic plants, all set against the backdrop of Lake Maggiore and the Alps. It's a peaceful, immersive experience where every turn reveals a new vista or a surprising flower.
