The Baptistery of San Giovanni in Siena is a serene religious site that houses one of the most celebrated works of Renaissance art: the baptismal font. Created by a trio of master sculptors, Donatello, Lorenzo Ghiberti, and Jacopo della Quercia, the font is adorned with bronze panels depicting scenes from the life of John the Baptist, as well as statuettes of virtues. The baptistery itself is a Gothic structure with a simple interior that focuses attention on this exquisite centerpiece. Visitors can also admire frescoes on the walls and the vaulted ceiling. The experience is intimate and contemplative, offering a chance to see the detailed craftsmanship up close.

Don't miss
