The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montallegro is a revered Marian shrine perched on a hilltop 612 meters above sea level, overlooking the town of Rapallo and the Gulf of Tigullio. It is a major pilgrimage site, known for a reported apparition of the Virgin Mary in 1557. Visitors can reach the sanctuary by a scenic funicular railway from Rapallo, which climbs through olive groves and offers stunning views. The sanctuary complex includes a Baroque church, a museum of ex-votos, and a small hostel. The terrace provides one of the best panoramic vistas of the Ligurian coast, from Portofino to Genoa. The peaceful atmosphere and fresh mountain air make it a popular day trip for both pilgrims and tourists.
