Bussana Vecchia is a hauntingly beautiful medieval village that was devastated by an earthquake in 1887 and abandoned for decades. In the 1960s, artists from around the world began squatting in the ruins, restoring houses and turning them into studios and galleries. Today, it is a thriving arts colony where painters, sculptors, and craftspeople live and work. The village clings to a hillside, its narrow cobblestone alleys winding past stone arches, crumbling walls, and colorful murals. Every door seems to open into a workshop or exhibition space. Visitors can watch artists at work, browse original paintings and ceramics, and enjoy a coffee at the piazza's café. The atmosphere is bohemian and creative, with a palpable sense of history. Despite its popularity, Bussana Vecchia retains a raw, unpolished charm, no souvenir shops or chain stores, just authentic art and stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
