Sant'Agostino is a beautiful Gothic church located in the western part of San Gimignano's historic center. Built in the 13th century by the Augustinian order, the church features a simple brick facade with a rose window and a tall bell tower. Inside, the single nave is adorned with a stunning cycle of frescoes by Benozzo Gozzoli, painted between 1464 and 1465, depicting scenes from the life of Saint Augustine. These frescoes are considered among Gozzoli's finest works, with vibrant colors and detailed narratives. The church also houses a notable wooden crucifix by Giovanni Pisano, dating from the late 13th century, which hangs above the main altar. The interior is serene and less crowded than the town's main cathedral, offering a peaceful atmosphere for reflection. The adjacent cloister and the small museum contain additional artworks and religious artifacts. The church is a must-see for art lovers and those interested in medieval religious architecture.
