Cardeto is a picturesque village nestled in the Aspromonte mountains, about 15 kilometers east of Reggio Calabria. Its medieval core features narrow alleys, stone archways, and the ruins of a Norman castle (Castello di Cardeto) that once guarded the valley. The village is surrounded by dense forests of beech, oak, and chestnut, part of the Aspromonte National Park. Hiking trails lead to waterfalls, ancient mills, and panoramic viewpoints. Cardeto is also known for its traditional festivals, including the Feast of San Sebastiano in January. The atmosphere is serene and timeless, offering a stark contrast to the coastal city. Distinctive for its well-preserved medieval character and natural setting, Cardeto is a haven for history buffs and nature lovers.
