Grotta dello Smeraldo, or Emerald Grotto, is a natural sea cave famous for the vivid emerald hue of its water, caused by sunlight filtering through an underwater opening. Visitors can descend via a staircase from the coastal road or arrive by boat from Amalfi or nearby towns. Inside, small rowboats take guests around the cave, where they can see stalactites and stalagmites, as well as a submerged nativity scene. The cave is particularly magical when the sun is high, illuminating the water.

Don't miss

  • Glide across the emerald-green water in a rowboat, marveling at the cave's reflections
  • Spot the submerged nativity scene, a unique underwater Christmas display
