The Christ of the Abyss (Cristo degli Abissi) is a striking bronze statue of Jesus Christ placed on the seabed in the waters of San Fruttuoso, a short boat ride from Rapallo. Installed in 1954, the statue stands about 2.5 meters tall with arms raised toward the surface, offering a serene and spiritual encounter for divers and snorkelers. The clear Mediterranean waters provide good visibility, making it accessible even for beginner divers. The statue is also visible from glass-bottom boats on calm days. The site is part of the Portofino Marine Protected Area, so marine life is abundant, adding to the experience.

Don't miss

  • The bronze statue itself, with arms outstretched in blessing
  • Snorkeling or diving in the clear waters of the marine reserve
  • Observing local fish and marine life around the statue
  • Visiting the nearby Abbey of San Fruttuoso (accessible by boat)
  • Taking a glass-bottom boat tour for a non-diving view
