The Duomo of San Giorgio is the centerpiece of Ragusa Ibla, the historic lower town. Its dramatic position atop a wide, sweeping staircase makes it one of Sicily's most photographed Baroque landmarks. Designed by architect Rosario Gagliardi, the church features a convex facade with three orders of columns, creating a sense of movement. Inside, the single nave is lined with side chapels, including a chapel dedicated to the patron saint, with a silver statue of St. George. The dome and bell tower dominate the skyline. Visitors often linger on the steps, which host concerts and events, and enjoy the view of the surrounding Iblean rooftops.
