Vallone dei Mulini (Valley of the Mills) is a dramatic gorge located in the heart of Sorrento, near Piazza Tasso. The valley plunges down from the town center, creating a microclimate of dense, subtropical vegetation. The name comes from the old flour mills that once operated here, powered by a stream that flows into the sea. Today, the gorge is a protected natural area, with a viewing platform offering a panoramic vista of the overgrown ruins and towering cliffs. The mills, abandoned in the early 20th century, are now enveloped in ferns, moss, and wild plants, creating an eerie yet beautiful scene. A short path leads down into the valley, where you can see the remains of the mills and the old washing houses. The contrast between the bustling town above and the quiet, lush gorge below is striking.
