La Specola is an 18th-century astronomical observatory perched atop a medieval tower in the heart of Padua. Originally built as a watchtower, it was converted into an observatory in 1767 by the Republic of Venice. Today, it houses a small museum of astronomy and historical instruments, including telescopes, astrolabes, and celestial globes. Guided tours take visitors up the tower to the observation terrace, which offers a stunning 360-degree panorama of Padua's rooftops, domes, and the surrounding Euganean Hills. The tour also includes the original meridian line and the 'Sala della Meridiana,' where sunlight marks the time. La Specola is part of the University of Padua's museum system and is a must for science enthusiasts and anyone seeking a unique perspective on the city.
