San Francesco is one of Orvieto's earliest Franciscan churches, dating to the 13th century. Its unadorned stone facade and rose window reflect the order's emphasis on simplicity. Inside, the single nave leads to a presbytery adorned with frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries, including a notable cycle by local artists. The adjoining cloister, with its graceful arches and central well, offers a tranquil space for reflection. Visitors can also see fragments of medieval frescoes in the chapter house. The church's location near the historic center makes it an easy stop while exploring Orvieto's religious heritage.

Don't miss

  • 14th-century frescoes in the presbytery
  • Peaceful cloister with arched colonnade
  • Simple yet elegant rose window on the facade
  • Chapter house with medieval fresco fragments
