Petroio is a tiny medieval hilltop village perched on a ridge in the Tuscan countryside, about 10 km from Montepulciano. With a population of only a few dozen, it offers a quiet escape from tourist crowds. The village is famous for its long tradition of ceramic craftsmanship; several workshops and galleries display and sell handmade pottery, from traditional designs to contemporary pieces. Visitors can watch artisans at work and purchase unique souvenirs. The narrow stone streets wind past ancient houses, a small church, and a central square with a fountain. From the village edges, sweeping views stretch over vineyards, olive groves, and the Val di Chiana. Petroio is ideal for a leisurely afternoon exploring art and scenery.
