Motya is a small island in the Stagnone Lagoon that was once a thriving Phoenician city. Today, it is an archaeological site and museum that offers a fascinating glimpse into ancient Mediterranean civilizations. Visitors can take a short boat ride from Marsala to reach the island, where they will find well-preserved ruins including city walls, a sanctuary, and a unique 'cothon' (an artificial basin used as a military harbor). The onsite museum houses important artifacts such as the famous 'Motya Youth' statue, a masterpiece of Greek sculpture.
