The New Synagogue of Livorno, or Tempio Maggiore, is a masterpiece of eclectic architecture, completed in 1962 after the original was destroyed in World War II. Its design incorporates Neoclassical, Moorish, and Art Nouveau elements, with a distinctive dome and a facade adorned with Stars of David. Inside, the sanctuary is bathed in natural light from stained-glass windows, and the ark is made of marble and bronze. The synagogue serves as both a place of worship and a museum, with exhibits on Livorno's Jewish community, which flourished after the Medici granted Jews religious freedom in the 16th century. Visitors can attend guided tours to learn about the history and symbolism of the building.
