Cinque Terre National Park, established in 1999, is Italy's first national park dedicated to protecting a cultural landscape. It encompasses the five villages of Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore, along with the surrounding cliffs, vineyards, and olive groves. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage site, recognized for its unique terraced agriculture and centuries-old dry-stone walls that shape the hillsides. Visitors can explore a network of hiking trails connecting the villages, offering breathtaking coastal views. The park also includes marine protected areas, making it a haven for snorkeling and boat trips. Distinctive for its integration of human settlement with nature, the park preserves traditional farming practices and local biodiversity. Whether hiking the famous Sentiero Azzurro or taking a train between villages, you'll experience a landscape where colorful houses cling to steep cliffs above the turquoise Ligurian Sea.
