The Palazzo dei Consoli is the most iconic building in Gubbio, dominating the Piazza Grande with its imposing Gothic facade and crenellations. Built in the 14th century, it served as the seat of the city's governing body. Today, it houses the Civic Museum, which contains a remarkable collection of artifacts from Gubbio's past. The highlight is the set of seven bronze tablets known as the Eugubine Tables, inscribed in the ancient Umbrian language and Latin, providing invaluable insight into pre-Roman religion and law. Visitors can also see medieval sculptures, frescoes, and a collection of ceramics. The building itself is a masterpiece of Gothic civic architecture, with a grand hall that once hosted council meetings. Climbing to the upper floors offers views over the piazza and surrounding rooftops. The museum is compact but rich, making it a must for history enthusiasts.
