Perched on the slopes of Mount Ingino, Gubbio is one of Umbria's most captivating medieval towns. Its narrow cobblestone streets, stone houses, and grand palaces have remained largely unchanged for centuries, offering visitors a genuine step back in time. The town is dominated by the Palazzo dei Consoli and the Duomo, while the surrounding landscape provides a dramatic backdrop of rolling hills and forests. What makes Gubbio truly distinctive is its living traditions, most notably the Corsa dei Ceri, a thrilling race held every May 15 where teams carry heavy wooden candles through the streets in honor of Saint Ubaldo. Visitors can explore the Roman theater at the foot of the town, climb to the Basilica of Sant'Ubaldo for panoramic views, and sample local specialties like truffles and cured meats. The atmosphere is authentic and unhurried, far from the crowds of better-known Italian destinations.
