Santa Maria Novella is one of Florence's most important religious sites, a Dominican church that showcases the transition from Gothic to Renaissance art. The interior is dominated by Masaccio's groundbreaking fresco of the Holy Trinity, a masterpiece of perspective. Visitors also admire the Cappella Tornabuoni with Ghirlandaio's frescoes and the Cappella Strozzi. The facade, designed by Leon Battista Alberti, combines white and green marble in a harmonious Renaissance style. The adjacent piazza is a lively gathering spot, making the church a central part of the city's fabric.
