The Medici Chapels in Fiesole are a museum and mausoleum dedicated to the Medici family, housing some of Michelangelo's most poignant sculptures. The chapels consist of the Sagrestia Nuova (New Sacristy), designed by Michelangelo, and the Cappella dei Principi (Chapel of the Princes), a lavish octagonal room adorned with marble and semi-precious stones. Michelangelo's allegorical figures Dawn and Dusk, along with Night and Day, adorn the tombs of Medici dukes. The museum also displays other Medici treasures and artwork. Visitors can wander through the solemn spaces, marveling at the fusion of architecture and sculpture. The site offers a profound experience of Renaissance funerary art and Medici power.
