Lonato del Garda sits a few kilometers inland from Lake Garda, offering a quieter, more historic experience. Its centerpiece is the Rocca (castle), a medieval fortress with imposing walls and towers that dominate the skyline. The Rocca houses a museum of the Risorgimento and offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The town's historic center features a Renaissance basilica, the Basilica of San Giovanni Battista, and a network of narrow streets with artisan shops. Lonato is also home to the Casa del Podestà, a 16th-century palace with frescoes. The town is less touristy than lakeside towns, making it ideal for those seeking culture and tranquility. Nearby, the Ugo da Como Foundation preserves a library and museum.
