The Sacrario militare di Pocol is a solemn World War I memorial and ossuary located on a hilltop near Cortina d'Ampezzo. It contains the remains of over 9,000 Italian and Austro-Hungarian soldiers who died in the mountain battles of the Dolomites. The site consists of a circular stone structure with a central chapel, surrounded by terraced gardens. Inside, the walls are lined with the names of the fallen. The memorial offers a powerful, reflective experience, set against a backdrop of jagged peaks that were once the front lines. Visitors can climb to the top for a 360-degree view of the Ampezzo Valley, the Tofane, and the Cristallo range. The site is free to enter and is a poignant stop for history buffs and hikers alike.
