Muri-Gries Abbey, perched on a hill overlooking Bolzano, is a working Benedictine monastery that combines spiritual life with winemaking. The abbey's Baroque church, dedicated to St. Augustine, features ornate stuccoes, frescoes, and a striking high altar. Visitors can tour the church and the peaceful cloister, then head to the abbey's historic wine cellar, where monks have produced wine for centuries. The cellar offers tastings of their renowned wines, including Lagrein and Gewürztraminer, in a vaulted medieval setting. The abbey also houses a small museum with artifacts from its long history. The panoramic views of the Dolomites from the abbey grounds are an added bonus.
