Karneid Castle (Castel Cornedo) is a striking medieval fortress that seems to grow out of the sheer rock face on which it stands. Located just a short drive from Bolzano, the castle commands a panoramic view over the Eggental valley and the Dolomites. Visitors can explore the well-preserved exterior and courtyard, and imagine life in the Middle Ages. The castle's position on a narrow spur of rock makes it a photographer's dream, especially in the golden hours of morning or late afternoon. Inside, the castle houses a restaurant and can be visited during opening hours, though access to some areas may be limited. The surrounding landscape of vineyards and forests adds to the fairytale atmosphere.
