The Basilica of San Petronio is a massive Gothic church that dominates the southern side of Piazza Maggiore. Despite being the fifth-largest church in the world, its facade remains famously unfinished, with the lower half clad in marble and the upper part bare brick. Inside, visitors can admire the vast nave, stunning stained-glass windows, and the longest sundial in the world, built in 1655. The basilica also houses artworks by notable artists, including a fresco of the Madonna and Child. It remains an active place of worship, so respectful behavior is expected.
