Accademia Carrara is one of Italy’s most important art galleries, located in the heart of Bergamo’s lower city (Città Bassa). The museum houses over 1,800 paintings, with a strong focus on Venetian and Lombard masters. Visitors can admire works by Bellini, Botticelli, Carpaccio, Mantegna, and Titian, among others. The collection was built from the 18th-century bequest of Count Giacomo Carrara and has since grown through donations and acquisitions. The gallery’s elegant neoclassical building provides an intimate setting, allowing for close encounters with the art. Temporary exhibitions often complement the permanent collection, and the museum’s study center is a resource for scholars. A visit here offers a deep dive into Northern Italian Renaissance painting, with masterpieces displayed in chronological and thematic order.
