Santa Maria della Pieve is one of Arezzo's oldest and most beautiful churches, a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture. Built between the 12th and 14th centuries, the church is renowned for its striking bell tower, known as the 'Tower of a Hundred Holes' due to its mullioned windows. The facade features a series of intricately carved columns and arches, each with unique capitals depicting biblical scenes, animals, and mythical creatures. Inside, the church has a simple, spacious nave with a raised presbytery and a 13th-century polyptych by Pietro Lorenzetti. The atmosphere is peaceful and historic, offering a glimpse into medieval Arezzo. The church is located in the main square, Piazza Grande, making it easy to combine with other sights.
