Scala dei Turchi

Scala dei Turchi is a stunning natural landmark on the southern coast of Sicily, near the town of Realmonte, about 15 km from Agrigento. The name means 'Stair of the Turks,' referring to the white marl cliffs that form a natural staircase-like structure leading down to the sea. The cliffs are composed of soft limestone and marl, giving them a brilliant white appearance that contrasts sharply with the deep blue Mediterranean. The site is a popular beach destination, where visitors can sunbathe on the smooth, white rocks or swim in the clear waters. The unique geological formation is the result of erosion over millennia, creating smooth, rounded shapes that resemble a giant staircase. The best time to visit is during low tide when the 'stairs' are fully exposed, allowing you to walk down to the water's edge. The Scala dei Turchi is also a protected area, so visitors are encouraged to respect the fragile environment.
