Situated on the northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee, the Church of the Primacy of Saint Peter in Tabgha is a Franciscan chapel built over a large rock known as Mensa Christi, where Jesus is said to have prepared a meal for his disciples after the Resurrection. The site commemorates the reinstatement of Peter as leader of the apostles. Visitors can see the rock altar, simple interior, and nearby remains of a fourth-century church. The tranquil setting offers views of the lake and gardens, making it a place for quiet reflection and prayer.
Don't miss
- The Mensa Christi rock altar, believed to be the table where Jesus served fish and bread.
- Ancient mosaic floors from a Byzantine church visible near the entrance.
- The peaceful lakeside setting with shaded gardens and a small pier.
