Church of the Holy Sepulchre

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, dating to the 4th century, is a sprawling complex shared by several Christian denominations. It encompasses Golgotha (Calvary), where Jesus was crucified, and the Edicule, a small shrine housing the tomb where he was buried and resurrected. Visitors climb a steep staircase to the site of the crucifixion, then descend to the Stone of Anointing, where Jesus' body was prepared for burial. The Edicule, recently restored, is the focal point for pilgrims. The church's dim lighting, incense, and crowded atmosphere create a deeply spiritual experience.
