Tel Tanninim combines Crusader-era ruins with a vibrant coastal ecosystem. The site centers on a small fortress built by Crusaders atop earlier Roman and Byzantine structures, once part of a larger industrial complex. The adjacent Taninim River flows through a reedy marsh, attracting birds and other wildlife. Visitors can walk among the ancient stone walls and then follow trails along the river, observing herons, turtles, and the remains of watermills. It's a compact but fascinating blend of history and nature.

Don't miss

  • Climb the Crusader fortress for views of the river and sea.
  • Spot waterfowl and turtles along the Taninim River trails.
  • See the ancient watermill channels and dams still visible in the river.
