Nahal Taninim protects the last natural coastal river in Israel, creating a lush wetland corridor. The reserve's main attraction is a series of well-preserved watermills from the Roman and Byzantine periods, powered by the river's flow. Trails wind through reeds and pools, offering excellent birdwatching opportunities, cormorants, kingfishers, and herons are common. The river's mouth opens to the sea, where sandbars shift with the tides. This is a quiet, unspoiled spot for nature lovers and history buffs alike.

Don't miss

  • Walk the boardwalk to see the ancient watermills and sluice gates.
  • Birdwatch from hides along the river, look for kingfishers and herons.
  • Explore the river mouth where freshwater meets the Mediterranean.
