The Tower of Flies stands at the mouth of the Port of Acre, a remnant of the city's Crusader and Ottoman fortifications. Built on a small island, it was originally connected to the mainland by a bridge and served as a defensive strongpoint. Today, it is a picturesque landmark visible from the port promenade. While the tower itself is not open to the public, its silhouette against the sea makes for a classic photo opportunity. It is named after the flies that once swarmed the area due to nearby salt marshes.
