Khan al-Umdan, or the 'Inn of the Pillars,' was built in 1784 by Ahmad Pasha al-Jazzar to serve merchants and their goods. This two-story structure surrounds a large courtyard with arched galleries and a central well. Its most distinctive feature is the clock tower, added in 1906 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdul Hamid II's reign. Today, the khan houses shops and cafes, and its open courtyard hosts cultural events. Visitors can explore the arcades and imagine the bustling trade of centuries past.
