Ardfert Abbey, a short distance from Ardfert Cathedral, is the evocative ruin of a Franciscan friary founded in the 13th century. The site features a long church with a beautiful east window, a central tower, and a cloister arcade with carved capitals. The abbey was an important religious center until its dissolution in the 16th century. Today, visitors can explore the roofless nave, the chapter house, and the remains of domestic buildings. The graveyard surrounding the abbey contains many old headstones, including those of local aristocratic families. The peaceful atmosphere and the sound of birds make it a contemplative spot.
