The Gap of Dunloe is a dramatic mountain pass carved by glaciers, winding between MacGillycuddy's Reeks and the Purple Mountain group. The narrow road passes five glacial lakes, each with distinct names like Cushvalley and Black Lake. The landscape is raw and rugged, with steep cliffs and boulder-strewn slopes. The most popular way to experience the gap is on foot, by bicycle, or in a traditional horse-drawn jaunting car. The route is about 11 km long and takes 2-3 hours to walk. Along the way, you'll encounter stone bridges, sheep grazing, and breathtaking views. The pass ends at the picturesque Kate Kearney's Cottage, a historic pub. The Gap of Dunloe is a quintessential Kerry experience, offering a sense of wilderness close to Killarney.
