The River Corrib is a short but powerful river that connects Lough Corrib to Galway Bay, cutting through the heart of Galway city. Its banks offer some of the most picturesque walks in the area, with well-maintained paths that take you from the city center out toward the university and the cathedral. A highlight is the Salmon Weir, a historic fish ladder where you can watch salmon leap upstream during spawning season (typically spring and summer). Nearby, the Spanish Arch, a 16th-century stone arch, stands as a reminder of Galway's trading past. The river is also popular for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, with rental shops nearby. Along the way, you'll pass the Galway Cathedral, the University of Galway, and several parks. The atmosphere is peaceful yet lively, with joggers, dog walkers, and anglers sharing the space. It's a perfect spot for a relaxing stroll or a picnic with a view.
