Eyre Square, officially named John F. Kennedy Memorial Park, is the bustling heart of Galway city. This open public space has been a central gathering point for centuries, surrounded by shops, pubs, and hotels. Visitors can stroll along tree-lined paths, relax on the grass, and admire the iconic Browne Doorway, a 17th-century stone doorway salvaged from a demolished townhouse. The Quincentennial Fountain, added in 1984 to mark Galway's 500th anniversary as a city, is a modern sculptural centerpiece. The square often hosts street performers, markets, and festivals, making it a lively introduction to the city's vibrant culture. Benches and a playground make it family-friendly, and the nearby Shop Street offers a seamless transition into Galway's medieval lanes.
