Turbot Island (Inis Toirc) is a small, uninhabited island lying off the coast of Connemara, near Cleggan. Accessible only by boat, it offers a true escape into nature. The island is covered in wild grasses and heather, with rocky shores and a few ruined stone cottages. It is a designated bird sanctuary, home to colonies of seabirds such as gulls, terns, and cormorants. Visitors can walk the island's perimeter, enjoy the solitude, and take in views of the Atlantic and the Connemara coastline. The boat trip itself is an adventure, often passing seals and other marine life.
