The Great Mosque of al-Nuri in Mosul was a revered Sunni mosque dating back to the 12th century, famous for its 45-meter leaning minaret known as Al-Hadba (the hunchback). It was a symbol of Mosul's heritage until it was destroyed by ISIS in 2017 during the battle to retake the city. Visitors today can see the ongoing reconstruction efforts, including the restored prayer hall and the minaret's base, while learning about its historical and cultural significance.
