The Ishtar Gate, built around 575 BCE by King Nebuchadnezzar II, was the eighth gate to Babylon's inner city. Its brilliant blue glazed bricks, adorned with reliefs of mušḫuššu (dragons) and bulls, made it a dazzling spectacle. Today, a reconstructed section stands at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin, but the original site in Babylon features a partial reconstruction using original bricks. Visitors can see the gate's foundations and imagine its former glory. The gate was part of a processional way used for religious festivals, embodying the city's artistic and engineering achievements.
