Etemenanki, meaning 'House of the Foundation of Heaven and Earth,' was a towering ziggurat in ancient Babylon dedicated to the chief god Marduk. This stepped pyramid, rising in seven tiers, is widely thought to have inspired the biblical story of the Tower of Babel.
