Azadi Tower (Freedom Tower) is the most recognizable symbol of Tehran, built in 1971 to commemorate the 2,500th anniversary of the Persian Empire. The inverted-Y-shaped structure combines Sassanid and Islamic architectural styles, clad in white marble. Visitors can take an elevator to the top for sweeping views of the city and the Alborz Mountains. Beneath the tower, a small museum displays artifacts related to the tower's history and Iranian culture. The surrounding Azadi Square is a vast plaza often used for national celebrations and gatherings.

Don't miss

  • Panoramic views of Tehran from the top of the tower
  • The museum beneath the tower, featuring historical photos and artifacts
  • The illuminated tower at night, a stunning sight against the skyline
