Sardar-e Kuchak Ab Anbar is a well-preserved example of a traditional Persian water reservoir, or ab anbar, featuring a tall wind tower (badgir) that once ventilated and cooled the water below. Visitors descend steps into the cool, dim chamber to see the large storage tank and the ingenious system of qanats (underground channels) that supplied it. The wind tower's four-sided design catches breezes and directs them down to the water's surface, preventing stagnation. This site offers a fascinating insight into how communities in arid climates managed water sustainably.

Don't miss

  • Descend into the underground reservoir to see the massive storage tank and its vaulted ceiling.
  • Observe the four-sided wind tower (badgir) and understand how it cooled the water.
  • Look for the remains of the qanat system that fed the reservoir from nearby mountains.
