Tall-e Bakun is a low archaeological mound just northwest of Persepolis, dating to the 5th millennium BCE. It represents one of the earliest known settlements in the Marvdasht plain, predating the Achaemenid capital by thousands of years. Excavations have uncovered painted pottery, clay figurines, and evidence of early agriculture. Visitors can walk around the fenced site and see the stratified layers, imagining life in the Neolithic era. The mound offers a quiet contrast to the grand ruins nearby, making it a must for archaeology enthusiasts.
