Hotel Majapahit, originally opened in 1910 as the Hotel Oranje, is a landmark of Surabaya's colonial heritage and a key site in Indonesia's struggle for independence. On September 19, 1945, Indonesian youths tore the blue stripe from the Dutch flag flying here, creating the red-and-white national flag. Today, the hotel offers elegant accommodations with period furnishings, a grand lobby with marble floors, and lush tropical gardens. Guests can explore historical photographs and artifacts displayed throughout the property, or relax at the pool and spa.

Don't miss

  • Visit the lobby's historical photo exhibit documenting the hotel's role in the independence movement.
  • Stroll through the tropical garden courtyard with its colonial-era architecture.
  • Dine at the hotel's restaurant, which serves Indonesian and international cuisine in a vintage setting.
