The Kingdom of Pajang site marks the location of the former capital of the Pajang Sultanate, a 16th-century Islamic kingdom that preceded the Mataram Sultanate. Located on the outskirts of Surakarta, the area contains archaeological remains including foundations of the royal palace (keraton), a bathing pool, and ancient walls. Visitors can wander among the ruins, which are set in a quiet, rural landscape, and imagine the grandeur of the past.
