The Wayang Museum is dedicated to the traditional Indonesian puppet theater known as wayang. Housed in a restored Dutch colonial building, the museum displays thousands of puppets from across the archipelago, including wayang kulit (leather shadow puppets), wayang golek (wooden rod puppets), and wayang klitik (flat wooden puppets). Visitors can see the intricate craftsmanship up close and learn about the stories from the Ramayana and Mahabharata that these puppets bring to life. The museum also hosts occasional live performances.

Don't miss

  • Admire the delicate carving and painting of wayang kulit shadow puppets from Java.
  • See rare wayang golek wooden puppets from West Java, each with expressive faces.
  • Watch a short wayang performance if available (check schedule upon arrival).
