The Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha temple at Simhachalam is a revered Hindu shrine situated on a hill about 16 kilometers from Visakhapatnam. Dedicated to Lord Narasimha (the half-man, half-lion avatar of Vishnu), the temple is known for its unique idol that is always covered in sandalwood paste, revealing its true form only once a year during the Akshaya Tritiya festival. The temple's architecture reflects Kalinga style, with intricate carvings and a grand gopuram. Pilgrims climb a flight of 500 steps or take a vehicle to the hilltop, where they are rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding forest and coastline.

Don't miss

  • The sandalwood-covered idol of Lord Narasimha, unveiled only on Akshaya Tritiya
  • Kalinga-style architecture with ornate carvings and a towering gopuram
  • Panoramic views of the Eastern Ghats and the Bay of Bengal from the hilltop
